Overview
Eli's appearance in Black Mesa is based on a generic African-American scientist turned into a character in a retcon for Half-Life 2. [1]
Eli Vance features in Black Mesa as a keen researcher and highly credited physicist in his early 40s. Alongside Gordon Freeman and Isaac Kleiner, he is part of the Sector C research team. He is expected to feature early on in the Black Mesa Modification as the scientist who is treating Dr. Kleiner shortly after the resonance cascade. He will have both his legs, due to the fact that the loss was after the player last saw him.
As with Kleiner, it is known from subsequent Half-Life stories that Eli survives the incident along with his daughter Alyx, who was saved by The G-man. Although they escape, Eli's wife perishes in the incident. Despite knowing that he does survive, it is highly unlikely that Eli will feature past the initial glimpse in the second and third chapters.
