Overview
In this, the final chapter of Half-Life and Black Mesa, the G-man makes his final appearance and offers Gordon Freeman the opportunity to come and work for his employers. Regardless of his choice, there is no further game-play after this point; choosing not to accept the offer, however, has dire consequences for our hero.
The choice given to you by the G-man could be considered an illusion of free will, or a Hobson's choice, much like saying, "Eat this, or we'll kill you." You have a two options, but any sane person would obviously choose to live. Nonetheless, many gamers have chosen to fight "a battle [they] have no chance of winning" at this crossroad.
Gameplay
This chapter takes place in a variety of areas around Xen. In each area, the G-man makes a portion of his final speech before teleporting to the next. The final portion of this chapter - and the game - takes place in a tram similar to the one featured in Inbound. In this case, the tram is traveling at great speeds through what appears to outer space.
Player participation in Half-Life's End Game is extremely limited. In each area, the player in enclosed in a small, invisible cell, allowing them limited movement and the ability to examine their surroundings, but ultimately forcing them to pay attention to the G-man's speech.
It is noteworthy that in Half-Life 2 and beyond, the G-man's appearances are relegated strictly to cutscenes, not allowing the player even the modicum of freedom they experience in Half-Life's End Game. Whether Black Mesa's End Game will follow this format or the format of the original Half-Life remains to be seen.
Media
The portion of the game that takes place on Xen will not be revealed until the mod release. [1]
