Houndeye
From Black Mesa: Wiki
Contents |
Overview
Houndeyes are ham-shaped, yellow aliens from Xen with three legs, blue bioluminescent stripes, and a single compound eye. Behaviorally, they resemble dogs, barking, whining, and working in packs.
Behaviour
Houndeyes prefer to work in packs, and become uncomfortable when alone. When idle, they will inspect the area around them (standing on one leg), eat corpses, and sleep. When attacking, the houndeye howls and emits a sonic shockwave, damaging anything around it and even tossing lighter objects away. When wounded, they will limp.
Mechanics
The Black Mesa Houndeye is faster and hardier than Half-Life's, and also features an extended attack range. These changes, as well as others, position Black Mesa's Houndeye to be a more challenging enemy. [1]
Console commands to turn on features disabled by default:
- sk_houndeye_tinnitus: Houndeyes can cause tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
- sk_houndeye_death_charge_exploding: Will make the houndeye to explode into gib chunks when killed while charging and release the accumulated energy. The energy will cause damage to the player if he stays inside the blast radius. The push force and and punch angles are offset by the distance (each of these has a max length that can be changed via console commands) [2]. Although the developers considered that feature "awesome" initially, they found it rather annoying after some tests, disabling it by default [3].
