Overview

The M203 Grenade (properly named as the M406 HE grenade) is the ammunition used by the M203 grenade launcher. They are uncommonly found throughout the Black Mesa Research Facility.

Gameplay

As the secondary ammunition which is more powerful than the weak 9mm bullets used by the MP5, they are to be used sparingly and are best used on a tight group of enemies. There is also a danger of firing the grenade too close to where the player is standing (whether due to poor aiming or being in a confined area), which can cause a great deal of damage or death to the player.

The maximum carry limit seems to be 5 M203 grenades.

Trivia

• Real 40mm grenades are outfitted with a safety system which only arms the grenades after traveling 30 feet (9 meters) when fired. However, in Half-Life the grenades detonate on impact, no matter the distance.
