Overview
The shoulder-fired RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade) is a heavy weapon usually reserved for destroying hostile vehicles such as the M1 Abrams tank and Apache helicopter.
The RPG is extremely powerful, but ammo is scarce relative to the lighter weapons in the game. Thus, the player is forced to conserve his ammo, saving rockets for more serious encounters. The RPG has the option of firing with or without a laser guidance system, detailed below. Like other explosives, the RPG will detonate other nearby explosives on impact, so it is recommended that the user keep aware of nearby laser tripmines and explosive barrels.
The RPG has a reserve of 5 rockets in Black Mesa [1].
Primary Function
Fire the rocket. The RPG cannot be holstered nor reloaded until the rocket is destroyed [2].
Secondary Function
Enable/Disable the laser guidance system.
If the laser system is enabled, a red dot appears at the crosshair target. When fired, the rocket will attempt to follow the dot as it closes in. This is ideal for tracking mobile targets.
If the laser system is disabled, no red dot appears at the crosshair. When fired, the rocket will continue in a straight path in the direction the launcher was pointed at the time. This is ideal for shooting around a corner when the player cannot be exposed for long.
Trivia
- The RPG is one of a selection of weapons in Half-Life and Black Mesa that can be fired while underwater.
- Because of a glitch in the original Half-Life's RPG, its laser could be used to guide rockets fired from enemy vehicles. This will not be possible in Black Mesa. [3]
