Tentacle

Overview
Tentacles are large, communal, serpentine Xenian lifeforms. They are mostly or completely blind, and as such hunt with their hearing. They are immobile, never leaving the area they originally grow, and kill their prey by bashing it with their beaks or simply grabbing and dragging it into the pit at their base. In Half-Life, they are seen growing from pits, through sand, and in bodies of standing fluid.
Tentacles are thought to have a rapid growth rate, possibly implying a short life-span[CITATION NEEDED], as evidenced by a Black Mesa scientist outside of the rocket propulsion testing silo in Blast Pit, who tells Gordon to "destroy the damned thing, before it grows any larger!"
Appearance
As their name implies, Tentacles commonly consist of one to three long, segmented appendages, each growing from a common base and topped by a claw-like head. The visible section of the Tentacle is approximately 10 meters in length, though it is unknown how large the entire organism is. They possess green armor plates over black leathery skin along the whole length of their body, one orange-red eye, which may or may not be purely vestigial, a long thin "beak" for smashing their prey, and two small, fleshy looking "probes" protruding from either side of the beak.
