Chapter Summary

Gordon wakes up in the test chamber right after the resonance cascade, realizing that the facility has been severely damaged. On his way back to the lobby, he comes across Eli Vance and an injured Isaac Kleiner, and the former urges him to get to the surface as quickly as possible and call for help. Since the tram is out, due to damage from the cascade, Gordon must go through Sector B. At the end of the chapter, a security guard prompts Gordon to "head topside", which leads him into the Office complex.

Unforeseen Consequences is the third chapter in Black Mesa.

Gameplay

In this chapter, the player meets Xenian enemies for the first time, such as the Headcrab, Zombies, Houndeyes, and Barnacles.

Due to the great number of scientists in Anomalous Materials before the incident, the player will find a great number of zombies in Unforeseen Consequences (specially in areas where they aren't found in Half-Life, like the lobby). The combat with them is intended to put more action between the long periods of level exploration [2].

Media

The lobby, destroyed after the Resonance Cascade and full of zombies. This shot was sent to PC Powerplay, but they never used it in the article about the mod [1].

Redesign History

Level Design

The link between the labs and and the older maintainment facilities has been extended for the environment to make more sense; in the original Half-Life, the shift was too abrupt. As a consequence, some of the released media of this chapter show rooms with a mixed environment, which don't match exactly any particular room in the original Half-Life. However, the general area can be compared.

Minor Updates

Throughout the development, some sections of the map were changed and/or received minor updates. The image below is older than the similar one in the Media section, but comparing them it is possible to notice the subtle differences and see what changed.
