VOX System

Overview

The Black Mesa Announcement System, or VOX, is the public address system used throughout the Black Mesa Research Facility and on the Inbound Trams to relay audible messages and announcements.

Originally in Half-Life, the messages are announced by a male-robotic voice with a fragmented and disjointed speech (except on trams, where a prerecorded female voice gives general information about the facility and mention each stop). In Black Mesa, the voice is from a female [1] until the Resonance Cascade occurs; after that, the system is taken by the Military and a male voice gives all the announcements [2].

Trivia

  • Victoria Teunissen took a little more than an afternoon to record the entire announcement that Gordon hears in the tram [3]. Before the official recordings for the mod, she recorded part of the same announcement and used it as an application to the team [4].
